Austrian Afternoon Tea : Andaz Singapore

One lovely afternoon, we were all transported to a Viennese coffee house for an afternoon of sweet treats iconic to Austria, and to partake of an awesome "live" Apfelstrudel pastry making demonstration at the Andaz Singapore! Austria is one of Rosette Media's favourite destinations in Europe, where we just partook of a wonderful trip almost 9 months ago, in January 2024.

We also met and greeted Gault & Millau Austria's Chef of the Year 2021 Max Stiegl, and we remembered our encounter with him exactly one year ago, also at Andaz Singapore and at this event we also met up with newly-minted Pastry Chef Cheri Ong. The lovely tasting session with Austrian delights and tea/coffee took place on Thursday, 24 Oct 2024 between 3pm - 5pm at the Alley on 25 (Level 25).

We had an entire array of different Austrian dessert, cake and pastry delights including the Sacher Torte, a Classic Layered Chocolate and Apricot Cake, the Purbacher Cremesschnitte comprising of Austrian Vanilla Mille-Feuille, Berries and Mint. Then came along the Topfennockerl, a combination of Curd Cheese, Berries and Pistachios, followed by the Topfen Golatschen made up of Curd Cheese Pastry, Raisin and Lemon. We coudn't resist the Wiener Malakoff-Torte, which consists of Malakov Chocolate Cake, Vanilla Cream, Rum, Apricot and Almonds.

The Live Demonstration that was showcased right in front of us by Max Steigl and Cheri Ong, comprise the making the of famous Austrian Apfelstrudel, which has original bits of the Viennese Apple Strudel (both sweet and sour varietals) that was well melangé into the making process.


For our combination of Austria Coffees that came along with the pastries was the Wiener Melange, a Single Espresso, Milk, Frothed Milk, we also could try the Kleiner Schwarzer, which is a Single Espresso, theGroßer Schwarzer, a Double Espresso, the Kleiner/Großer Brauner which is a Single/Double Espresso with Small Jug of Milk (so yummy), the Verlängerter, a Coffee Americano, a Wiener Einspänner, (from "one-horse carriage") so traditional and typically found in Vienna, a Coffee Americano with Whipped Cream.
