A Night of Whisky, Poetry, and Camaraderie: Saigon Whisky Society’s Fourth Annual Burns Supper

On 15 February 2025, the Saigon Whisky Society hosted its Fourth Annual Burns Supper, an evening dedicated to the life and works of Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns. Held at the elegant Sofitel Saigon Plaza, the event brought together whisky lovers, poetry enthusiasts, and those who simply appreciate a good dram in great company.
The evening began with whisky cocktails to set the mood, followed by an exquisite dinner where each table was graced with two bottles of great whisky, including Chivas 18 and Aberlour 12 Double Cask. The program unfolded with all the hallmarks of a classic Burns Supper—rousing toasts, heartfelt recitations, and, of course, the ceremonial Address to the Haggis.

The ceremony was expertly hosted by Mikey Brenker, Founder and President of the Saigon Whisky Society, who guided the guests through the traditions of the evening with humor and reverence.
A key highlight of the evening was the support of Pernod Ricard, whose generosity ensured that attendees were well lubricated during the cocktail hour and throughout the dinner. Their contribution helped elevate the event, making it an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
The night was also made possible through the valued partnerships of the British Chamber of Commerce Vietnam (BritCham) and Sofitel Saigon, whose collaboration and support helped bring the event to life. Their involvement underscored the strong and growing appreciation for whisky culture in Vietnam, as well as the enduring global legacy of Robert Burns.
Laughter and camaraderie filled the room as traditional Scottish fare was served, accompanied by impassioned toasts to the immortal memory of Burns. The evening's formal program concluded with a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne, bringing together friends, both old and new, in a fitting tribute to the poet’s enduring message of friendship and goodwill.
After Auld Lang Syne, guests moved to the lounge bar, where they were treated to an open tasting of over 140 different whiskies. Among the standout selections was the oldest bottle of the night—a 55-year-old Scotch whisky priced at over 1,000 GBP.
With another successful Burns Supper behind us, the Saigon Whisky Society is already looking ahead.
Mark your calendar for the Fifth Annual Burns Supper that will take place on Saturday, 24 January 2026.
This date was moved from the regular Burns Night to accommodate the Lunar New Year holiday. Here’s to more whisky, poetry, and shared moments in the year ahead!
